Juno – Blank Canvas

Background

2020 bought us a year of change. So in 2021 to promote and enhance the local creative and design industry, Strategy Collective evolved the idea to run a social media competition inviting submissions for the upcoming seasonal gin labels. Since its inception Juno have released 4 seasonal gins every year and it has been the design teams dream to evolve and generate these labels each year. However off the back of Covid and looking at the number of talented designers out in New Zealand looking for work. Strategy Collective and Juno decided it would be a great conversation and allow perhaps even up-coming designers to have a chance at winning. There were a total of four prizes up for grabs one for each season and the chance to have name and artwork featured in the release.

Project

Strategy Collective took the lead and generated a key terms of engagement for when the artists were submitting artwork, we created the assets that we needed to run the social media campaign, set a landing page up on website and generated a creative brief. This was the easy part. Entries came through to Craig Jones Creative Director and the narrowing of entries was a difficult task. Discussions were had that we could choose one artist for all four and or four separate artists. After careful consideration and guidance the artists were crowned the winners.

Summer 21 designed by aspiring graphic designer Abbey Barlow a student at AUT.

Autumn 21 designed by Niels Yuan who abstracted a women enjoying a martini at a garden party amongst Autumn leaves.

Winter 21 designed by Steven Greenblatt, a junior doctor at Taranaki Base Hospital and aspiring artist.

Summer 21 designed by Llewellyn Parry a designer, illustrator and animator based in Christchurch.

Results

The campaign was far reaching and an incredible experience to open up this chance to others. We would love to run Blank Canvas again and see what other artists and work come to the fore for Juno’s 2022 Seasonal Gins!
