HR Conference 2015

Two days filled with lavish lunches and yummy snacks, plus a quick getaway to the big smoke (Auckland), weren’t the only draw cards for me in wanting to attend the recent HR Change and Transformation Conference earlier this month (7 – 8 December).

The opportunity to further explore the top trends of HR from an esteemed line-up of speakers from leading organisations throughout New Zealand as well as meeting like-minded HR professionals were the real value.

It was an action packed two days, where we were walked through a comprehensive overview, with varying perspectives, case studies and approaches, to better understanding proven strategies that can enhance the HR function within organisations and ultimately boost business performance as a result.

Here are a few of the key learnings that I would like to share with you:

  • HR holds the secret to business success! Yes, HR is the key driver for business performance if executed in line with the company strategy and vision
  • Culture is your social currency – the way you do things and why you do things that way is what makes up your “culture”
  • Organisations should be tailoring their cultures to suit their own business and its objectives – imitation is not the answer
  • Best practice is still relevant however focus for businesses should be on “best fit” and what works for you and why
  • “People are not your greatest assets, the right people are your greatest asset” – put people (leaders) into roles who will be successful with the right support measures, give your people a clear pathway.
