Touch-points:

Jay Ruka

Mustard Fridays Season Four.

Jay Ruka’s journey of discovering his Māoritanga began as a result of learning about the history of Christianity in New Zealand as an adult.

Now, in his current role as a Dean at Taranaki Cathedral, Jay is tasked with bringing to life a new project called ‘Te Manu Hononga,’ a beautiful new educational space where Te Tiriti o Waitangi will be brought to life through right relationship between Māori and Pākehā. This new building will seek to honour the history of Pukaka (the St Mary’s site), telling stories both good and bad, from a settler and a Māori perspective, to provide opportunity for the community to better learn from the mistakes of the past, and together create a new, shared narrative for the future.

Mustard Fridays is a mini documentary series showcasing people in our local community doing awesome things. The impact they are making definitely cuts the mustard, so we are keen as mustard to share their stories.
